IBCC equivalence converts your O Level and A Level grades into Matric (SSC) and Intermediate (HSSC) percentages, so Pakistani universities and employers can compare you with board students. You apply through the IBCC online portal, upload your documents and certificates, pay the fee and receive an equivalence certificate. Apply early: most universities ask for it at admission.
Who needs IBCC equivalence?
- O Level students applying for intermediate (FSc, ICS, ICom) admission in Pakistan
- A Level students applying to Pakistani universities, including medical and engineering colleges
- Students applying for some government jobs and scholarships
- Students with foreign qualifications who need them recognised in Pakistan
O Level requirements
For students who sat O Levels in Pakistan, IBCC usually requires eight subjects: English, Mathematics, Urdu, Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies, plus at least three electives. For a science group, the electives are usually Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Computer Science). Students who studied abroad or are foreign nationals may be exempt from some compulsory subjects. Rules for mixed cases (for example O Levels abroad and A Levels in Pakistan) differ, so check with IBCC.
A Level requirements
A Level equivalence to HSSC needs your O Level or Matric equivalence first, plus three principal A Level subjects that match your group:
| Group | A Level subjects |
|---|---|
| Pre-medical | Biology, Chemistry, Physics |
| Pre-engineering | Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry |
| Computer science | Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science |
| Humanities | Any three A Level subjects |

How grades convert to marks
IBCC converts each grade to marks using a published table, then calculates a percentage. A commonly cited version gives roughly A = 85, B = 75, C = 65, D = 55 and E = 45, with the value for the top grade, A*, set each year. IBCC's own table is the only one that counts, so use it (or IBCC's calculator) when estimating your percentage.
Documents you usually need
- CNIC, smart card or B-Form, and a parent's or guardian's CNIC
- O Level and A Level certificates or statements of result (originals and copies)
- For A Level, your O Level or SSC equivalence certificate
- Proof of fee payment
- Passport and visa copies for students who studied abroad
Plastic-coated certificates are generally not accepted, and provisional statements of result have limited validity, so keep your originals safe.
How to apply
- Create an account on the official IBCC portal at ibcc.edu.pk.
- Fill in the online form and upload clear scans of your documents.
- Pay the processing fee through the channel IBCC specifies.
- Submit documents for verification as instructed.
- Receive your equivalence certificate once verification is complete.
Processing usually takes a few weeks, longer in admission season. Check the current fee and timelines on the official IBCC website before applying.
Grades still matter
Equivalence turns grades into percentages, and universities rank applicants by those percentages. Every grade boundary you cross raises your equivalence. See IGCSE and O Level subjects we teach and A Level subjects we teach.
