StoryCraft free creative writing workshop for kids aged 7–10 on Zoom, Saturday 24 October 2026

Many children love stories but freeze in front of a blank page. StoryCraft is built around that moment. Instead of being told to "write a story", children build one piece at a time, so by the time they start writing, they already know who their story is about and where it happens.

What happens in the workshop

  1. Meet the group. A quick, friendly warm-up so everyone feels comfortable speaking.
  2. Invent a character. Every child creates a character with a goal, a flaw and a secret: the three things that make readers care.
  3. Build their world. Using all five senses, children describe where the story happens so it feels real.
  4. Write the opening. With guidance, they write the first lines of their story: an opening that makes a reader want more.
  5. Share. Children who want to read aloud share with the small group and hear what worked.

What your child takes away

  • A character and setting they invented themselves
  • The opening of a story they can keep writing at home
  • Confidence that the blank page is not so scary
  • A certificate of participation

Who it suits

Children aged 7 to 10 who like books, make up games or characters, or find school writing tasks a chore. No writing experience is needed.
