Lectures about safety are quickly forgotten. A poster your child designed, with rules they helped choose, is something they actually look at.
- Ages: 7–14
- Time: 30 minutes
- Skill: Safe and responsible AI use
What you need
- A large sheet of paper or card
- Coloured pens, pencils or paints
- Optional: stickers or pictures
Step by step
- Talk first. Ask your child where they use or see AI, and what could go wrong.
- Agree five rules. For example: never share personal details; check important facts; AI explains, I do the work; tell an adult if something feels wrong; it is software, not a friend.
- Write them clearly. One rule per line, in your child’s words.
- Illustrate each rule. A small drawing next to each makes it memorable.
- Sign it. Everyone in the family signs the poster: adults too.
- Put it up. Stick it near where devices are used.
Rules worth including
- Never share name, school, address, photos or passwords
- Check important facts in a book or trusted site
- AI explains. I do the work for homework
- Tell a trusted adult if anything feels strange
- AI is software, not a person or a friend
