A Level Chemistry rewards students who understand why reactions happen, not just what happens. Students who memorised their way through O Level often hit a wall here, especially in organic mechanisms and the calculations in physical chemistry. The fix is to rebuild the ideas properly, then practise them in exactly the style Cambridge examiners use.

Cambridge International AS & A Level
Chemistry9701

Most of our A Level students sit Cambridge International AS & A Level. If your child is on a different board, such as Pearson Edexcel International A Level, tell us the units and we will confirm honestly whether we can help.

What the syllabus covers

  • Physical chemistry: atomic structure, chemical bonding, states of matter, energetics, equilibria, reaction kinetics, electrochemistry, entropy and Gibbs free energy
  • Inorganic chemistry: the Periodic Table, Group 2 and Group 17, nitrogen and sulfur, transition elements
  • Organic chemistry: hydrocarbons, halogen compounds, alcohols, carbonyl compounds, carboxylic acids, nitrogen compounds, polymerisation and organic synthesis
  • Analysis: infrared spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, NMR and chromatography

Students sit Paper 1 (multiple choice), Paper 2 (AS structured), Paper 3 (advanced practical skills), Paper 4 (A Level structured) and Paper 5 (planning, analysis and evaluation).

How we teach A Level Chemistry

Every student starts with a topic-by-topic diagnostic. "Weak at Chemistry" is not specific enough to fix: we need to know which topics lose marks, and whether the problem is understanding, recall or exam technique.

  1. Diagnose: a short test across the specification, marked against real Cambridge mark schemes.
  2. Rebuild concepts: we fix the underlying idea first, because technique built on a shaky concept collapses under exam pressure.
  3. Past-paper cycles: topic-wise questions first, then full papers, learning the command words and exactly what examiners credit.
  4. Timed practice and tracking: full papers under exam timing in the final weeks, with progress tracked topic by topic.

Classes are live online in groups of 3 to 5 students, or one-to-one when a student is starting late, retaking or has very specific gaps. Sessions are recorded for revision, and parents get honest progress updates on WhatsApp. We teach students across Pakistan (Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and beyond), the Gulf, the UK and North America.

Where students usually lose marks

  • Organic mechanisms drawn without correct curly arrows, charges or intermediates
  • Calculations in equilibria, Kc and Kp, pH and buffers, and electrochemistry
  • Explaining trends in the Periodic Table with precise reasoning
  • Synthesis routes that need reagents and conditions for every step
  • Practical and planning papers, where method and data handling decide the grade

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover organic chemistry mechanisms in depth?
Yes. Organic chemistry is where many students lose the most marks, so we teach mechanisms step by step and practise synthesis routes with real past-paper questions.

Can you help with A Level Chemistry practical papers?
Yes. We cover Paper 3 and Paper 5 skills directly: observations, data tables, graphs, errors and planning experiments.

Is Chemistry needed for medicine in Pakistan?
For the pre-medical route, A Level students usually need Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Read our guide to A Level subject combinations for details, and always check the current IBCC and university rules.

Do you teach AS and A2 together or separately?
Either. We plan sessions around the exam series your child is entered for, whether that is AS only, A2 only, or the full A Level in one series.
