SAT Math has 44 questions in two 35-minute modules. A calculator is allowed throughout, and Desmos is built into the Bluebook app. About three-quarters of questions are multiple choice; the rest ask you to type your own answer.
What is tested
| Domain | Typical topics |
|---|---|
| Algebra | Linear equations, inequalities, systems of equations, linear functions |
| Advanced Math | Quadratics, exponentials, polynomials, nonlinear functions |
| Problem-Solving and Data Analysis | Ratios, percentages, units, statistics, probability |
| Geometry and Trigonometry | Area, volume, angles, triangles, circles, right-triangle trigonometry |
Algebra and Advanced Math make up the largest share. Most students in Pakistan who have done IGCSE or O Level Maths already know much of the content: the work is speed, accuracy and question style.
When to use Desmos
Desmos is fast for:
- Systems of equations: graph both lines and read the intersection
- Quadratics: find roots, vertices and intercepts instantly
- Checking an answer you worked out by hand
It is slower than mental maths for simple arithmetic and percentages. Practise with it before test day so you use it by habit, not by panic.
Student-produced answers
For questions without options, you type the answer. Fractions and decimals are both accepted within the rules, and negative answers are allowed. Read the instructions once during practice so they do not slow you down on the day.
Mistakes that cost points
- Answering a different question: finding x when it asked for 2x + 1
- Unit and percentage slips: percent of versus percent change
- Rushing the first module, which affects the difficulty of the second
- Spending too long on one question instead of flagging it
How to practise
Use official practice tests in Bluebook, then keep an error log: the topic, why you got it wrong, and what you will do differently. Most students find their errors cluster in three or four topics: fix those, and the score moves.
