Business Studies rewards application: using the details of the case study to support an answer. Students who write correct but generic answers, answers that could be about any business, usually find themselves stuck below the top marks no matter how much they revise.

Always confirm the exact syllabus code and exam series with your school. They appear on the statement of entry.

What the syllabus covers

  • Understanding business activity: enterprise, business types, objectives and stakeholders
  • People in business: motivation, organisation, recruitment and communication
  • Marketing: market research, the marketing mix and marketing strategy
  • Operations management: production methods, costs, quality and location decisions
  • Financial information and decisions: sources of finance, cash flow, income statements and ratios
  • External influences on business activity: economic, environmental, ethical and international factors

Papers are built around short-answer and case-study questions, many of which ask students to recommend and justify a decision.

How we teach IGCSE & O Level Business Studies

Every student starts with a topic-by-topic diagnostic, because "weak at Business Studies" is not specific enough to fix. We need to know which topics are losing marks, and whether the problem is understanding, recall or exam technique.

  1. Diagnose: a short test across the syllabus, marked against the real mark scheme.
  2. Rebuild concepts: we fix the underlying idea first. Technique on top of a shaky concept collapses under exam pressure.
  3. Drill past papers: full cycles of past papers, learning the command words and exactly what examiners give marks for.
  4. Time and track: timed papers in the final weeks, with progress tracked topic by topic.

Classes are live online in groups of 3–5 students, or one-to-one when a student is starting late or has very specific gaps. Sessions are recorded for revision, and parents get honest progress updates on WhatsApp.

Where students usually lose marks

  • No application: answers that never mention the business in the case study
  • Recommendations without justification
  • Finance calculations: cash flow and ratio errors
  • Definitions: close but not precise enough for the mark

Frequently asked questions

How is Business Studies different from Economics?
Business Studies looks at decisions inside a business: marketing, finance, people and operations. Economics looks at markets and the whole economy. Many students take both.

How do you teach case-study answers?
We practise picking out case-study details and using them in every answer, then recommending and justifying a decision, with marked feedback each time.

Do you teach both IGCSE 0450 and O Level 7115?
Yes. We teach to the syllabus your child is entered for and use the matching past papers.

Does Business Studies involve calculations?
Some: cash flow, break-even, income statements and ratios. We cover these step by step so they become reliable marks.
