Biology looks like the "memorising" science, and students who treat it that way are surprised by their results. The marks go to precise use of keywords and to explaining processes in the right order. A student can know the content and still lose a third of the marks on wording alone.

What the syllabus covers
- Cells and organisation: cell structure, specialised cells, diffusion, osmosis and active transport
- Biological molecules and enzymes: food tests, enzyme action and the effect of temperature and pH
- Nutrition: photosynthesis, leaf structure, human diet and digestion
- Transport: transport in plants and the human circulatory system
- Disease and immunity: pathogens, the immune system and vaccination
- Gas exchange and respiration: aerobic and anaerobic respiration
- Coordination and response: the nervous system, hormones and homeostasis
- Reproduction, inheritance and variation: DNA, genetic diagrams, natural selection
- Organisms and their environment: food chains, nutrient cycles and human impact
- Biotechnology and genetic modification
IGCSE 0610 has Core and Extended tiers; O Level 5090 is a single tier. Both assess practical skills, and the alternative to practical paper rewards knowing how to design and evaluate an investigation.
How we teach IGCSE & O Level Biology
Every student starts with a topic-by-topic diagnostic, because "weak at Biology" is not specific enough to fix. We need to know which topics are losing marks, and whether the problem is understanding, recall or exam technique.
- Diagnose: a short test across the syllabus, marked against the real mark scheme.
- Rebuild concepts: we fix the underlying idea first. Technique on top of a shaky concept collapses under exam pressure.
- Drill past papers: full cycles of past papers, learning the command words and exactly what examiners give marks for.
- Time and track: timed papers in the final weeks, with progress tracked topic by topic.
Classes are live online in groups of 3–5 students, or one-to-one when a student is starting late or has very specific gaps. Sessions are recorded for revision, and parents get honest progress updates on WhatsApp.
Where students usually lose marks
- Vague wording: "the enzyme dies" instead of "the enzyme is denatured"
- Osmosis and water potential explanations in the wrong sequence
- Genetic diagrams: missing gametes or probabilities
- Data questions: describing a graph without quoting figures
- Investigation design: forgetting controlled variables and repeats

Frequently asked questions
Is IGCSE Biology mostly memorisation?
Less than students think. Content matters, but most lost marks come from imprecise keywords and explanations given in the wrong order. Those are skills we teach directly using the mark scheme.
Do you teach both IGCSE 0610 and O Level 5090?
Yes. We teach to the syllabus and paper structure your child is entered for and use matching past papers.
Can you help with the alternative to practical paper?
Yes. We teach investigation design, variables, results tables and evaluation using past alternative-to-practical papers.
How are students kept on track between sessions?
Short weekly practice and topic-wise tracking. Parents get an honest WhatsApp update on what improved and what still needs work.
