Pakistan Studies is offered at O Level only. There is no Cambridge IGCSE equivalent. It is two subjects in one: a history paper that rewards analytical essays, and a geography paper that rewards data skills and case studies. Students are often strong in one and weak in the other.

The two papers

Paper 1: History and Culture of Pakistan. From the decline of the Mughal Empire and the struggle for independence through to Pakistan's history since 1947. Questions include source-based parts, description and explanation, and "how far do you agree" judgements that need a balanced, reasoned answer.

Paper 2: The Environment of Pakistan. Physical and human geography: land, climate, water, agriculture, power and energy, industry, transport, population and the economy. Expect maps, graphs and data, alongside explanation questions.

For many students in Pakistan, Pakistan Studies is a required subject for school completion and equivalence. Confirm your school's requirements when choosing subjects.

How we teach O Level Pakistan Studies

Every student starts with a topic-by-topic diagnostic, because "weak at Pakistan Studies" is not specific enough to fix. We need to know which topics are losing marks, and whether the problem is understanding, recall or exam technique.

  1. Diagnose: a short test across the syllabus, marked against the real mark scheme.
  2. Rebuild concepts: we fix the underlying idea first. Technique on top of a shaky concept collapses under exam pressure.
  3. Drill past papers: full cycles of past papers, learning the command words and exactly what examiners give marks for.
  4. Time and track: timed papers in the final weeks, with progress tracked topic by topic.

Classes are live online in groups of 3–5 students, or one-to-one when a student is starting late or has very specific gaps. Sessions are recorded for revision, and parents get honest progress updates on WhatsApp.

Where students usually lose marks

  • History "how far" questions: one-sided answers with no clear judgement
  • Explanation vs description: narrating events instead of explaining causes
  • Geography data questions, not quoting figures from the resource
  • Case-study detail: answers too general to reach the higher marks

Frequently asked questions

Is there an IGCSE Pakistan Studies?
No. Pakistan Studies is a Cambridge O Level subject (2059). Students taking IGCSEs often take it at O Level alongside their other subjects.

Do you teach both the history and geography papers?
Yes. Many students need more help with one than the other, so the diagnostic shows where to spend the time.

How do you prepare students for the history essays?
We teach a clear structure for explanation and judgement questions, then practise past questions with marked feedback until the structure is automatic.

Is Pakistan Studies compulsory?
For many students in Pakistan it is required by their school and for equivalence purposes. Confirm with your school.
