Accounting is cumulative. If double entry is not completely secure, every topic built on it, trial balances, adjustments, financial statements, becomes guesswork. Most students who struggle in Accounting are struggling with a foundation they were taught months earlier.

Always confirm the exact syllabus code and exam series with your school. They appear on the statement of entry.

What the syllabus covers

  • The fundamentals of accounting: purpose, the accounting equation and terminology
  • Sources and recording of data: books of prime entry and double-entry bookkeeping
  • Verification of accounting records: trial balance, correction of errors, bank reconciliation and control accounts
  • Accounting procedures: depreciation, irrecoverable debts, accruals and prepayments
  • Preparation of financial statements: sole traders, partnerships, limited companies, clubs and manufacturing accounts
  • Analysis and interpretation: ratios and what they say about a business
  • Accounting principles and policies

Exam questions reward accuracy, correct formats and clear labelling as much as understanding: presentation marks are real marks in Accounting.

How we teach IGCSE & O Level Accounting

Every student starts with a topic-by-topic diagnostic, because "weak at Accounting" is not specific enough to fix. We need to know which topics are losing marks, and whether the problem is understanding, recall or exam technique.

  1. Diagnose: a short test across the syllabus, marked against the real mark scheme.
  2. Rebuild concepts: we fix the underlying idea first. Technique on top of a shaky concept collapses under exam pressure.
  3. Drill past papers: full cycles of past papers, learning the command words and exactly what examiners give marks for.
  4. Time and track: timed papers in the final weeks, with progress tracked topic by topic.

Classes are live online in groups of 3–5 students, or one-to-one when a student is starting late or has very specific gaps. Sessions are recorded for revision, and parents get honest progress updates on WhatsApp.

Where students usually lose marks

  • Debit and credit confusion in less familiar transactions
  • Adjustments: accruals, prepayments and depreciation applied in the wrong direction
  • Formats: missing headings, dates or totals in financial statements
  • Ratio questions: calculating correctly but not interpreting the result
  • Time: long statement questions left unfinished

Frequently asked questions

My child finds Accounting confusing. Where do you start?
With double entry. The diagnostic usually shows the confusion starts there, and once it is secure, later topics make much more sense.

Do you teach both IGCSE 0452 and O Level 7707?
Yes. The content is closely related; we teach to the syllabus and paper format your child is entered for.

Is Accounting a good subject for future business studies?
It is useful for A-Level Accounting, Business and Economics, and for commerce degrees. It also builds accuracy and organisation that help in other subjects.

How do you build speed for long questions?
Timed practice on full financial-statement questions, with feedback on layout so students stop losing time to rewriting.
