Economics students often understand the ideas and still score in the middle bands. The difference between a middle and a top answer is usually a complete chain of analysis, this causes that, which leads to this, followed by a genuine evaluation. That is a writing skill, and it can be practised.

Always confirm the exact syllabus code and exam series with your school. They appear on the statement of entry.

What the syllabus covers

  • The basic economic problem: scarcity, choice, opportunity cost and production possibility curves
  • The allocation of resources: demand, supply, price determination and elasticity
  • Microeconomic decision makers: households, workers, trade unions and firms, banks
  • Government and the macroeconomy: fiscal, monetary and supply-side policy, growth, inflation and unemployment
  • Economic development: living standards, poverty and population
  • International trade and globalisation: specialisation, exchange rates and the balance of payments

Questions range from short definitions to longer "discuss" answers, and data-response questions based on real-world information.

How we teach IGCSE & O Level Economics

Every student starts with a topic-by-topic diagnostic, because "weak at Economics" is not specific enough to fix. We need to know which topics are losing marks, and whether the problem is understanding, recall or exam technique.

  1. Diagnose: a short test across the syllabus, marked against the real mark scheme.
  2. Rebuild concepts: we fix the underlying idea first. Technique on top of a shaky concept collapses under exam pressure.
  3. Drill past papers: full cycles of past papers, learning the command words and exactly what examiners give marks for.
  4. Time and track: timed papers in the final weeks, with progress tracked topic by topic.

Classes are live online in groups of 3–5 students, or one-to-one when a student is starting late or has very specific gaps. Sessions are recorded for revision, and parents get honest progress updates on WhatsApp.

Where students usually lose marks

  • Diagrams: unlabelled axes or shifts drawn in the wrong direction
  • Incomplete analysis: jumping from cause to conclusion without the steps in between
  • One-sided "discuss" answers with no evaluation
  • Data questions, not using the figures provided

Frequently asked questions

Does my child need to be good at Maths for Economics?
Only basic Maths is needed: percentages, reading graphs and simple calculations. The bigger skill is written analysis, which we teach directly.

Do you teach both IGCSE 0455 and O Level 2281?
Yes. We teach to the syllabus and paper format your child is entered for and use matching past papers.

How do you improve long answers?
We teach a clear structure for analysis and evaluation, then mark practice answers against the mark scheme with specific feedback.

Is Economics useful later on?
Yes, for A-Level Economics and Business and for degrees in economics, business and the social sciences.
